Even though it is just mid-February, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any excitement about baseball. Pitchers and catchers are reporting soon and spring training will be underway in no time.

While there is a lot of anticipation about what is going to be happening on the field in the coming months, right now there is even more anticipation about what is going on OFF the field as the hot stove league is in full swing.

Yesterday we saw the announcement of Manny Machado signing a $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres, one of the biggest dominoes to fall in the free agency period.

Who Will Bryce Harper Sign With?

With that blockbuster signing, all of the eyes are now pointed to prized free agent Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals. Given all the money that is being thrown around to superstars and the fact that camping is starting in some areas, it sounds ridiculous that Harper hasn’t signed anywhere yet. I imagine we’ll see an end to his free agency in the coming days. But where?

I wasn’t able to find any up-to-date odds, but here is what sportsbook BetOnline had posted as of last Monday, February 11:

  • San Francisco Giants: 1/1
  • San Diego Padres: 5/2
  • Philadelphia Phillies: 4/1
  • Los Angeles Dodgers: 15/2
  • Washington Nationals: 10/1

odds on what team Bryce Harper will sign with

I expect, over the course of the last week, that these odds have significantly changed and I am eager to see in what manner they’ve adjusted. With the Padres spending all that money on Machado, are they still a contender for Harper’s services? Do they have the funds to sign both young superstars?

Will the Giants 1/1 odds become a less than even money bet now that the supposed #2 contender may have less flexibility to sign Harper? Will the odds for the Phillies, Dodgers, and the Nationals become a little lower paying?

I’ll keep a lookout for some updated betting odds as the week progresses. Who do you have your money on? Comment below with your predictions!
